Getting the Perfect photos for your babys birth announcements.

Photos are such an important part of your Birth announcement, unfortunetly the wrong photo can really dull down your announcement.

Some mistakes i commonly see are-

  • Blurry/ out of focuse photos
  • Very distracting images, with poor back grounds etc
  • Photos that just don’t capture the moment

I sugest that you get the camera out and take some photos just for your announcements, it really isnt as hard as it seems. Here are a few tips to get you started-

  1. Choose a time when your baby is settled, even asleep. After a feed is good, though spew may not look lovely in a photo hehe.
  2. Chose somewhere that has plenty of natural light, a bed under a window would be great, or even on the floor or a table right next to a window. Natural light is the key to getting well lit photos without using the flash which can cause red eye.
  3. Set up a back drop, a well pressed bed sheet draped over the bed head is a great idea. Try to keep this neutral, white is great but you could go the opposite with black or brown also.
  4. Keep baby’s clothes neutral or at least solid colours, patterns can be distracting. Even just a nappy would be lovely to show off all that newborn skin.
  5. Props are great but not necessary. a nice big woven basket filled with soft fabric could be a lovely place to pop a sleeping baby all curled up, or photograph them with there favorite/first teddy something that you would like to record forever.
  6. Try different settings on your camera, there are settings to take portraits and macro settings to take nice close ups of your baby’s features like there hands and feet.
  7. Take LOTS of photos, with the age of digital cameras there is no reason you cant snap away to your hearts content, the more you take the better your chances are at getting the perfect shot.
  8. If you don’t succeed try and try again, If baby isn’t settled come back in a few hours and try again. Have a look over the shots you have gotten, if you aren’t in love with any set up another day, maybe try something different.
  9. Don’t be afraid to have a go at photo editing with some simple programs. I can always do some editing of your photos for you, things like adjusting the lighting etc can make a huge difference. I can also turn your photos to black and white.
  10. Send as many photos as you would like, there is no harm in seeing what a few diferent photos look like in the same design. I can always adapt designs to suit your photos as well, you may like to add some detail shots to the design, that is easely done, just ask.

I hope these tips can get you on the way to taking some beautiful photos of your child. If you are worried or can not quite get it right there are lots of wonderful photographers around who will work wonders with your children and they arnt always as pricy as you think.

Tuesday titbit is a new section to share tips of all kinds.

Ensure you are giving yourself plenty of time to order your invitations.

Weddings you really need to be finalising your order about 12 weeks before hand. his gives plenty of time to get the invitation right, get them posted to you, you post them to your guests and them having plenty of time before the rsvp date which is usualy a month or so before your wedding.

Parties you can be a little slacker with but it will all depend on how long in advance you need to know who is coming. a good rule of thumb is about 6 to 8 weeks before the party be finalising your order.

How can you make sure everything runs smoothly with your order?

Have all your information redy, all the party/wedding details etc.

make sure you have your wedding guest list organised, be prepaird to seach high and low for addresses etc.

The “perfect” Wedding invitation

Posted by Kim  |  Brides

Is there such a thing as the “perfect” wedding invitation?

The answer is that there is a perfect invitation for you. You just have to know how to find it.

You need to decide early on in your wedding planning the “feel” you would like for your wedding day, be it- laid back, Formal, Warm, Airy etc It really should mirror the two of you as a couple.

Once that is decided you can start to look for invitation designs that suit that feel.

Colour is defiantly a big part in the feel of your wedding. Your invitations do not have to match your brides maids dresses for them to fit the theme of your wedding, think about graphics, style of font and even the lay out and wording. Each of these elements will change the look of an invitation greatly.

Ask to see a number of samples, chose the colours you love and different fonts you will be amazed how much simple changes to a design will change the feel of the invitation.

Start thinking about your stationary as early as you can. Many people leave it too late and find themselves rushed into a design. You should really have your design finalised ready to order 12 weeks before your wedding to allow plenty of time for production and postage of your invitations and to give you and your guests plenty of time for replies.
